During a visit to the United States by Vietnam’s trade minister, Vietnamese and American companies signed a series of agreements in the energy and minerals sectors.
State-owned PetroVietnam Power, a participant in one of the deals with its executives accompanying the minister, mentioned that Vietnamese companies are negotiating with U.S. firms to purchase American crude oil and LNG.
Vietnam’s Trade Minister, Nguyen Hong Dien, is in the U.S. to discuss trade cooperation between the two nations.
In a statement, PetroVietnam Power announced it had signed a memorandum of understanding with GE Vernova to acquire GE equipment for gas-fired power plants.
The total value of these agreements amounts to $4.15 billion.
Other deals include agreements between PetroVietnam Gas and companies like ConocoPhillips and Excelerate, as well as between Vietnamese oil refiner Binh Son and Kellogg Brown & Root.
Additionally, Vietnam’s fuel trading company Petrolimex signed agreements with the U.S. Grains Council, Renewable Fuels Association, and Growth Energy. A mineral processing partnership was also established between Masan Group and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
This visit occurs ahead of the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for federal agencies to complete comprehensive reviews of various trade issues next month, including analyses of ongoing U.S. trade deficits.
