Vietnam’s Electricity Output Reaches 45.06 Billion kWh in First Two Months of the Year
HÀ NỘI — Vietnam’s electricity production and imports totaled 22.24 billion kWh in February, marking a 12.6% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
For the first two months of this year, cumulative power generation reached 45.06 billion kWh. Coal-fired thermal plants led production with 55.1%, followed by hydropower at 20.6% and renewable energy sources contributing 16.3%. Electricity imports accounted for just 1.9% of the total supply.
EVN ensured a stable electricity supply to support the country’s socio-economic development during this period. The state-owned utility also effectively managed water discharge and provided power for pumping stations, crucial for the winter-spring rice cultivation season in the northern midlands and Red River Delta regions.
On the investment side, key power projects, including the Hòa Bình hydropower extension, Quảng Trạch I thermal power plant, and Bác Ái pumped-storage hydropower plant, progressed on schedule.
Regarding grid infrastructure, EVN launched 13 new projects and completed 28 grid projects ranging from 110 kV to 500 kV, including the 500 kV Monsoon–Thạnh Mỹ transmission line, which facilitates electricity imports from Laos.
